A Nigerian Mom’s Guide to Brain-Boosting Foods

Let’s be honest — we all want our kids to be sharp. Sharp enough to remember where they dropped their socks, to ace their spellings, and maybe invent the next big thing in Nigeria. But guess what? That brainpower isn’t just in the genes — it’s on their plate too.
Yes, mama, food can help make your child smarter.
Not just full — smart.
You’ve probably heard the phrase “you are what you eat.” Well, when it comes to kids, it’s more like: “You think how you eat.”
🧠 Why Food Matters for Their Brain
Children’s brains are growing fast — like, super fast. They need the right combo of protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and slow-burning carbs to keep their minds alert, focused, and ready to soak up all the ABCs, 123s, and life lessons.
And no, “rice morning, afternoon and night” doesn’t count as variety 😅
That’s why I created this Smart Kids Meal Plan — it’s a delicious, Nigerian-friendly guide to feeding your child for better memory, focus, and mood (less tantrum = more peace in the house 🙏🏾).
🍽️ The Smart Kids Meal Plan (in summary):
- Eggs for brain cell growth
- Fish (like mackerel and sardines) for focus and memory
- Oats and sweet potatoes for steady energy
- Leafy greens like ugu and spinach for concentration
- Yogurt, berries, avocados, beans, and seeds for everything from mood to mental sharpness.
I’ve laid it all out in a weekly plan with Nigerian staples. Think jollof fonio with shrimp, plantain pancakes, adalu, pepper soup, and even agidi (yes oh, smart food doesn’t have to be foreign or boring!).
And of course, there are snacks — the brain needs fuel between meals too.

This is just a taste of what’s inside The Little Big Bite Cookbook — a collection of fun, balanced, and brain-boosting meals made especially for African kids.
If you’re tired of repeating spaghetti, rice, and noodles every week, this cookbook is your best friend.
Let’s feed them right — because well-fed kids = well-behaved kids (most times sha 😅)
And when they grow up to be geniuses, just know it started with what you put on their plate.
